His Excellency the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Nabih Berri, issued a statement in which he condemned the campaigns of insult and assault on religious and national symbols, from wherever they came, and through any means, whether in the media or in the virtual space, calling on the Lebanese, all Lebanese, to be aware of the dangers of sliding towards the strife that the common enemy of the Lebanese, their Christians and Muslims, has always dreamed of and sought. He said: “Whoever dared yesterday to demolish the school and monastery of the Redeemer nuns and the Church of Saint George in Yaroun, and to destroy the statue of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) in Dibal, and before that to demolish the historic Grand Mosque in the city of Bint Jbeil, and today the Husseini Club in the town of Al-Duwair, is the only victor in the Lebanese people’s division from their right, and in their war among themselves, God forbid.” The Council President continued: “Beware, then beware, of continuing to sedition, may God curse those who awaken it. National responsibility requires everyone to work to suppress it, and not fan its flames. The judicial authorities are called upon to act immediately to hold accountable those who insult and belittle the sanctity and dignity of the messages of earth and heaven.” Speaker Berri concluded: “In these moments, everyone is called to realize that love of God and hatred of man are not equal, and the Almighty’s saying is sufficient for all of us: In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: {And fear a trial that will not strike those who have wronged among you in particular, and know that God is Severe.” Punishment}. God Almighty has spoken the truth.”
